Master Builder Award Program

The primary purpose of The Master Builder Award Program is to encourage and recognize lodges in the planning, implementation and management of a well rounded yearly program promoting lodge activities, brotherhood, charitable work, and involvement in their community.

Award Qualifications: Mandatory Requirement: Perform as a Lodge, community service/public service or charitable activity.
Master Builder Award: Achieve (5) Major Standards & (6) Basic Standards, 11 Accomplishments Total
Major Standards:
1. Three delegates attend the Grand Lodge Communication.
2. Establish a yearly operating budget, and present it to the Lodge membership.
3. Hold at least one fund-raising activity or event.
4. Conduct three Masonic education programs during the year.
5. See that at least two of the three degrees of Masonry are conducted during the year.
6. At least four members, including two elected officers visit a tiled meeting of another Lodge.
7. Distribute at least three written communications (newsletters, trestle board, etc.).
8. At least five members, including two elected officers participate in a Regional Masonic Workshop or Grand Lecturer's Workshop; or at least two of the following officers at a Warden's Retreat; Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Senior Deacon.
9. Present a Hiram Award to a Lodge member
Basic Standards:
1. Invite and host a meeting for one other Lodge
2. Host a Social event and invite the ladies and widows
3. Recognize Masons, such as Past Masters night, or 50-year members at a dinner.
4. At least four members, including two elected officers visit a Youth Group Meeting.
5. Participate in the Masonic Model Student Assistance Training Program.
6. As a Lodge attend a high school or college sporting event, school play or other event.
7. Hold a fellowship night, open house or friendship night to which non-Masons are invited.
8. With at least four members including at least two elected officers, attend a County Commission, City or Town Council meeting, or any other governmental organization meeting.
9. Assist five shut-ins or widows during the Masonic year.
10. Hold a Table Lodge in accordance with the Utah Table Lodge Ritual.
11. Conduct a Rusty Trowel Night in accordance with the Utah Rusty Trowel Ceremony.
12. Conduct a dinner to honor new Lodge members raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason within the past year or the current EAs or FC working.
13. At least four Masonic couples or members, including children, as a group attend a church service of their choice.
Application:
In order to be considered for The Master Builder Award a lodge must submit an application form to the Grand Lodge Education Committee detailing their activities for the year. To confirm the application's accuracy and completeness, it must be reviewed and signed by the Worshipful Master and the lodge Secretary, with the lodge seal affixed. Documentation of activities may be included, if desired, but is not required.
Lodge Program Director:
The Worshipful Master of each lodge will need to appoint a Master Builder Program Director for their lodge who will serve as the liaison between the lodge and the Grand Lodge Education Committee. This information will be communicated in writing by mailing the Program Director Letter to the Grand Lodge office at the beginning of the year.
Presentations:
Lodges who earn the Master Builder Award will be recognized for their efforts and success during a special presentation at the annual communication. Lodges who become Master Builders for the first time will receive a plaque with the square and compasses, Grand Lodge name and Lodge name designating them as a Master Builder. Each successive year that a Lodge becomes a Master Builder they will be presented with an attachment plate that hangs from the header plaque to represent all the years of distinction for the Lodge.
