Most Worshipful Brother Henry H. Hammill

Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Utah 1956.

Brother Henry H. Hammill was born at Crystal Falls, Michigan on February 5, 1892, where he made his home until 1910. He received his elementary school work in Michigan, his home State, his high school work at Two Harbors, Minnesota and completed his school work with a business course at Chicago, Illinois.

On June 23, 1914 he and Miss Florence A. Switzer were married. They have three sons, Henry Scott, Frederick Maxwell and Gaylord, all members of Progress Lodge No. 22 and Utah Consistory. Brother Hammill has the distinction of having conferred the three degrees of Masonry on each of his three sons during the year he was Master of Progress.

In 1910 he entered the employ of the Duluth and Iron Range Railroad Company at Two Harbors, Minnesota, in which service .he continued until 1915, when he entered the employ of Johns-Manville Company at Chicago, where he continued until 1917.

During the year 1917 Brother Hammill and his family came to Salt Lake City, where they have since lived continuously and where he has continued his work with the Johns-Manville Company as District Representative.

He has been an active member of the Wasatch Presbyterian Church and other Civic organizations since coming to Salt Lake City.

Brother Hammill received the three degrees of Masonry in Fortitude Lodge No. 188 at Two Harbors, Minnesota during June and July, 1913. He affiliated with Progress Lodge during the organization of that Lodge and thereby became a Charter Member as of January 21, 1920, when the Charter of Progress Lodge was approved by Grand Lodge.

He served as Worshipful Master of Progress during the calendar year 1947.

He received the Scottish Rite degrees in North Star Lodge of Perfection No.6; A. T. C. Pierson Chapter of Rose Croix No.4; Zenith Council of Kadosh No. 3 and Duluth Consistory No. 3 of Duluth, Minnesota in 1914 and transferred his membership to the Utah Scottish Rite Bodies on January 21, 1924. He was elected Knight Commander of the Court of Honour on October 16, 1951; received the Investiture of that Body on February 9, 1952 and was elected Master of Kadosh of Utah Consistory on December 18, 1952.

In York Rite Freemasonry he was Exalted in Utah Chapter, R. A.M. on February 22, 1952; Knighted in Utah Commandery, K. T on March 22, 1952 and Greeted in Utah Council R. & S. M. on June 9, 1953.

He was Created a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in EI Kalah Temple on March 17, 1920; has played a cornet in El Kalah Band for thirty six years, sang with the El Kalah Chanters for several years and is now High Priest and Prophet of El Kalah Temple.

When he has concluded his year as M:.W:.Grand Master of the Grand Lodge, F. & A. M. of Utah, he will have served nine years as a Grand Lodge Officer, in the following order:

Brother Hammill has been an active and devoted member of this Fraternity for more than forty-two years. During that time he has acquired many friends and has filled faithfully and efficiently many important positions in the various departments of Freemasonry and he is well qualified to assume and perform the duties of the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge, F. & A. M. of Utah.
