Most Worshipful Brother John Edward Carver

Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Utah 1921.

Brother John Edward Carver, son of William and Hannah Saxe Carver, was born at Farmington, Van Buren County, Iowa, March 1st, 1871. He received his early education in the public schools of Farmington, which he attended until sixteen years of age. From 1889 to 1892 he attended Lake forest Academy in Illinois, and the following year entered Lake Forest College from which he graduated the early part of 1897. During the fall of the same year he entered Princeton College, of Princeton, New Jersey, graduating and receiving the degree of Master of Arts in 1899.

Brother Carver chose the ministry as a vocation, and was ordained as such in the Presbyterian Church in 1899. He accepted a call to the pulpit of the First Presbyterian Church at Ogden, Utah, in 1900, of which he is still its pastor.

Brother Carver is a fluent and forceful speaker, broadminded in his views, and is popular with all classes of people. He takes as active interest in all matters of a civic nature, and his services along this line are in great demand by the citizens of Ogden, where he resides.

Brother Carver was married to Miss Clara Boreman, daughter of Judge and Mrs. Jacob Boreman, in October, 1906. They have one child, John Edward Carver, Jr.

Masonic Record

Brother Carver was made a Mason in Weber Lodge No. 6, at Ogden, Utah, being initiated an Entered Apprentice March 4th, passed to the degree of Fellow Craft April 1st. and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason May 6th, 1909.

He received the Royal Arch degrees in Ogden Chapter No. 2 of Ogden, Utah in 1918. Was created a Knight Templar in El Monte Commandery No. 2 located at Ogden, Utah, in 1911, of which he was Eminent Commander in 1918.

He received the Scottish Rite degrees in Jordan Lodge of Perfection, No. 2, James Lowe Chapter of Rose Croix No. 1, Salt Lake Council of Kadosh No. 1 and Utah Consistory No. 1 at the twentieth reunion held at Salt Lake City, November 19th, 20th and 21st, 1912.

He was elected by the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite, Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, October 21, 1919.

In the Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons of Utah, he was elected Senior Grand Warden in 1919, Deputy Grand Master in 1920, and at the Fiftieth Annual Communication held January 18th and 19th, 1921, at Salt Lake City, was elected and installed Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Utah.
