The Seventy-first Grand Master of the M: .W: .Grand Lodge, F. & A. M. of Utah during its seventy-fifth year and one of the very few Grand Masters who were born in the State of Utah.

He was born at Fillmore, the first capital of the State, January 23, 1887, where he lived as a boy, attended the elementary and high school and later the University of Utah. He taught in the public schools in Sevier and Emery Counties for four years and during the year 1912 was admitted to practice law. He is a member of the Utah and American Bar Associations.

His principal vocation, however, in addition to the vast amount of time he devotes to Freemasonry, is that of managing his business of public accounting. His clientele extends over a large part of the Intermountain country and the Pacific Coast.

He was elected Auditor of the State of Utah in 1912, in which position he served four years. Shortly thereafter he entered the mili-tary service in World War I, serving with the rank of Major in the Construction Division of the Army. In 1919, he became a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Accountants. He has served on many Committees of the Institute, including the Nominating Committee, Board of Examiners, Committee on Accounting Procedure and the Executive Committee. In 1939 he was elected Vice President of the Institute.

He is past president of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the Utah State Bar of Examiners.

Indicative of the prominence attained and the value placed on his professional ability, he was called to Washington, D. C., during 1940, to serve in an advisory capacity to General Hartman, Chief of the Construction Division of the Army, in organizing the auditing and accounting branch of the Construction Division.

As a member of the Masonic Fraternity he has also received recognition and many honors, all of which were rightfully due because of his untiring efforts in the interest of Masonry and his desire and ability to do things worth while.

He became a member of Acacia Lodge No. 17 at Salt Lake City by initiation, receiving the Master's degree January 16, 1922, and served his Lodge as Master during the year 1929.

He received the Thirty-second degree, Master of the Royal Secret, in Utah Consistory November 23, 1923, was advanced to the rank and decoration of the Knight Commander of the Court of Honour October 22, 1935, and invested with the Thirty-third degree, Inspectors General Honorary, October 24, 1941, and in 1943 was appointed by the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Southern Jurisdiction, as one of the Grand Stewards for a term of two years. He served as Venerable Master of Jordan Lodge of Perfection during the year 1940.

He was Exalted to the degree of Royal Arch November 13, 1929, in Salt Lake Chapter and became a member of Utah Chapter No.1 at the time of the consolidation of these Chapters, May 4, 1932.

He was greeted in Utah Council No.1, R. & S. Masters November 22,1930, Knighted in Utah Commandery No.1, K. T., March 13, 1930, and installed a Knight Companion in Bonneville Conclave No. 25, Red Cross of Constantine, February 4, 1939. He is now the Sitting Viceroy of that Conclave.

He became a member by initiation in EL Kalah Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., March 28, 1924, served as Illustrious Potentate during the year 1939, and has since been elected each year as a Representative of the Imperial Council. He is now Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Intermountain Unit, Shriners' Hospitals for Crippled Children.

He was President of the Salt Lake Chapter No. 114 of the National Sojourners during the year 1944 .

At the conclusion of his term as Grand Master he will have served as a Grand Lodge Officer for seven years and four months, in the following order:

September 26, 1939 Installed Grand Orator
September 24, 1940 Installed Grand Marshal
September 23, 1941 Installed Grand Marshal
January 26, 1943 Installed Junior Grand Warden
January 25, 1944 Installed Senior Grand Warden
January 23, 1945 Installed Deputy Grand Master
January 29, 1946 Installed Grand Master

Brother Kelly's record is an open book and all who are familiar with it doubt not that he will serve Masonry as Grand Master in a most exemplary and efficient manner as he has always done in the past.
