April 2007 Newsletter
Spring has finally arrived. The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising and the plants and trees have started to blossom. This is my favorite time of year. It’s a time when nature renews all living things. It’s also a time for us to renew our commitments to our Lodge, participate in Masonic youth group activities and support an array of Masonic Family functions that will “spring” up during the season.
As a reminder, the Scottish Rite Spring Reunion will be held on April 19-21 at the Salt Lake Masonic Temple. This is an extraordinary occasion where Master Masons continue their Masonic education by receiving the 4th through the 32nd degrees. Contact the Scottish Rite office at 801-363-2661 for information on how to become a Scottish Rite Mason today.
Mark you calendar for Sunday, May 27th for an enjoyable day of fun, food and excitement at the Masonic Family Day at Lagoon. This is a great way to bring our Masonic Family together with a special emphasis on our youth groups. Watch for discount admission coupons available from representatives throughout our jurisdiction in the next few weeks. I’ve been told that the weather will be perfect, so bring your entire family and enjoy the day at Lagoon.
The Grand Master’s commemorative pins and coins are now available for purchase from the Grand Lodge office, at Grand Lodge visitations and from your Grand Lodge officers. Please see the accompanying flyer for details. There are two pin designs: a men’s Masonic Compass Rose lapel pin and a women’s pin which is identical, except for the absence of the letter “G”. These sell for $6.00 each or, if you purchase a set of men’s and women’s pins, the cost is only $10.00. The limited edition coin commemorates 135 years of Utah Freemasonry. It has the Grand Lodge Seal on one side and the Masonic Compass Rose on the other. These sell for $10.00 each. The net proceeds from the sale of these items benefit the Endowment Fund.

Decision No. 3: Renunciation of Freemasonry by a Master Mason
It is my decision that a Master Mason under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Utah is at liberty to renounce his membership from the Masonic Fraternity, provided that he is current in his dues and no Masonic charges are pending against him. He must personally deliver a dated and signed declaration of renunciation to the Worshipful Master(s) of the Lodge(s) in which he is a member, a copy of which shall be furnished to the Grand Secretary. Upon the receipt of his renunciation by the Worshipful Master(s), the individual will no longer be considered a Master Mason by justly constituted Masonic authorities. Furthermore, his renunciation is irrevocable and will result in the immediate and permanent forfeiture of all the rights and benefits of Freemasonry, including all applicable appendant and concordant organizations.
Sincerely & Fraternally,
Dean D. Rein
Grand Master
