Research Lodge

For decades, our lodge has received and promoted research from brothers throughout this jurisdiction. We have many fine papers at our disposal, and will soon be making them available in electronic format for use in you lodges. That, brethren, is the past, and we now have an eye to the future.

Research Lodge is bona fide lodge under the Grand Jurisdiction. However, we do have distinctions and limitations. For starters, we do not have a dispensation to perform degree work. We cannot initiate, pass, or raise candidates. As a rule, we only accept Master Masons in good standing as members, and only a Past Master of a lodge can serve as our Worshipful Master. This is not unlike St. Andrew’s Lodge #34, which does not initiate, pass, or raise it’s own candidates, but performs a specific mission for our jurisdiction.

Unlike other lodges, we do not have voting priviledges at Grand Lodge communications, and our Past Masters don’t receive special consideration at those proceedings. This is not a concern for us, because all of our Past Masters are already Past Masters from their respective lodges and as such are life members of the Grand Lodge with full voting priviledges in their own right. The advantages to the Research Lodge are that, by and large, we are free from the affairs of government and are free to devote our time to research unimpaired. Essentially, we are the research arm of the Grand Lodge of Utah, and as such, we are in your service.

Membership is open to all Master Masons in good standing, in this, or any recognized Grand Jurisdiction.
