Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Utah


M.W. Brother Ridgely H. Gilmour was born May 6, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Craddock and Jessica Gilmour. He was educated in the public school system through 8th grade, transferring to Rowland Hall St. Mark=s School in Salt Lake City for grades 9 through 12 from which he graduated in 1971. With a small Rotary Club scholarship, he attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado.

M.W. Brother Gilmour’s father, an attorney, started a small industrial lime services company in 1968 and several of his sons, including M.W. Gilmour started working for the company from the beginning. During high school, Gilmour spent every summer working for Gilmour & Company Lime Products at its operations in Utah, Washington, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, or Colorado. His interest in the family business remained strong and after a year at the Colorado School of Mines, Brother Gilmour began working full time for the company, telling everyone he was just taking a year off from college. During the next seven year period, M.W. Brother Gilmour ran company operations in Montana, Idaho, and Washington, residing in Boise, Idaho, for five of those years.

In 1980, Gilmour returned to Salt Lake City to enroll in the Department of Management, School of Business at the University of Utah. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1982 with the Highest Academic Achievement Award from the Department of Management. During this time he continued to run Gilmour & Company as the President and General Manger and in the mid 1980’s, he acquired ownership of the company. Gilmour & Company currently has operations in California, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

He currently lives in Park City, Utah, with his wife, Anne, a fiber artist. They are members of the Utah Scottish Association and M. W. Gilmour serves as the Utah Clan Convener for the Clan Morrison Society of North America.

Most Worshipful Brother Gilmour was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on December 6, 1982, in Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 2, Salt Lake City, Utah. During the following five years he held appointed offices in the lodge until business required a move to California in 1987. Returning in1989, he rejoined the officer line and became Master of the lodge in 1995. He again served as Master in 2003 and served as secretary of the lodge in 2004. He joined the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite (A&ASR) in the Spring Reunion Class of 1983 and invested with the rank of Knight Commander of the Court of Honour in 2001. He is currently (2005) an officer in two of the bodies in the A&ASR Valley of Salt Lake. He is also a member of El Kalah Shrine, the Salt Lake City York Rite Bodies, the Royal Order of Scotland, the Royal Scots of Utah, the National Sojourners, the Heroes of >76, and the Bonneville Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine. He was honored with the DeMolay Legion of Honor Award in 2004. M.W. Brother Gilmour is also a member of Carbon Lodge No. 16 in Price, Utah, where his grandfather was Worshipful Master in 1920 and is a charter member of St. Andrew=s Lodge No. 34, Clearfield, Utah.

Most Worshipful Brother Gilmour was appointed to the Grand Lodge of Utah in 1998 by Grand Master David W. Barron and was elected Grand Master at the 133rd Annual Communication on February 5, 2005.
