Utah Masonic Leadership Academy
2007 Utah Masonic Leadership Academy
May 25, 2007
Dear Brethren
The 2007 Utah Masonic Leadership Academy (UMLA) will be held on Friday evening and all day Saturday on the fourth full weekend in August, August 24 and 25, at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Salt mLake City. The Grand Lodge portion of the UMLA has been developed specifically for Senior and Junior Wardens and Senior Deacons to provide them with actionable information they will need to govern their lodge as they progress in the line. It is also designed to foster development of personal relationships between lodge peers and their Grand Lodge counterparts. The Deputy Grand Master will mentor the Senior Wardens, the Senior Grand Warden will mentor the Junior Wardens, and the Junior Grand Warden will mentor the Senior Deacons. All Master Masons are encouraged to attend the Academy.
This year, we have added a golf outing to the festivities on Friday, August 24, 2007. The “Drive for Leadership” will be held at Stonebridge Golf Club in West Valley City beginning at 8:00 AM with a shotgun start. Enjoy a continental breakfast, golf, and a deli lunch for $90.00 and arrive at the Hilton Hotel refreshed and ready to learn. The academy schedule begins with a welcome banquet at 7:00 PM on Friday night followed by a presentation by Pastor France Davis of the Calvary Baptist Church in downtown Salt Lake City. Pastor Davis is well known in the community and has many years of experience working with volunteers for the advancement of his organization. He will speak on leadership issues with volunteers and I know you will enjoy his cogent remarks. The welcome banquet will be preceded with a reception sponsored by El Kalah Shriners of Salt Lake City at 6:00 PM. A no host social will follow the banquet at approximately 9:00 PM.
On Saturday, we will have two breakout sessions during which the Senior Wardens, Junior Wardens, and Senior Deacons will each have a chance to get to know each other in a collegial setting and discuss various topics specifically designed for their upcoming jobs. We will also provide concurrent breakout sessions for our ladies to better acquaint them with what Masonry is and what they can do to help their husbands as they progress in the line. Saturday breakfast is being sponsored by the Grand Lodge and the Scottish Rite Salt Lake Valley and Saturday Lunch is being sponsored by the Grand York Rite of Utah.
